Description
The Tool was designed by my good friend Stefan Eder and his design team in Germany. This
same team designed the 2005 F3B World Championship model: the highly
acclaimed and respected CROSSFIRE. The TOOL was never meant to be
available to the general soaring public, but after much interest
from serious European competitors, it was put into limited
production.
This model is already shaking up Europe with some notable pilots doing the test
flying as well as the design team. Launches high...goes fast...goes far...and stays
up long!! Is there anything else? Oh yes...and turns on a dime. Comes with a couple pounds of ballast.
If you don't have a "TOOL" in your belt, you might be at a
disadvantage. We will learn a lot about this model in the next few
months...

UPDATE:
The first few production runs went to pilots around the country
as well as USA F3B Team member Tom Kiesling. Tom's report
on the model was quite simple. He had been flying the Crossfire
but upon testing the TOOL, immediately switched and took
three TOOLs to the 2007 World Championships. He said,
"It is a very honest sailplane. It launches great, is
very fast, and acceleration is excellent. It is very easy
to fly." Tom posted his fastest speed time in F3B competition
ever at the World Championship (15 sec).
I finally was in a position to have a "TOOL" of my
own. After testing it, I have to concur with his evaluation.
It is a superb model and does all expected things well. I
found it on launch to be rock solid with a very "locked
on" feeling. The zoom is spectacular. On the distance
course it moved around effortlessly and when in a low level thermal
position, it surprised me. Acceleration for speed is superb.
I was pleasantly surprised how well I could do a low
level thermal save....it felt like a light, nimble TD ship at that
instance.
In quick summary, I was very impressed by the overall ability
demonstrated by the model and would not hesitate if one had interest to
pursue flying one for the all important team slots coming up
for our USA 2008 F3B Team selection. The TOOL would not
hinder anyone's effort to put in their best performance, and quite
frankly, with knowledge and practice with a TOOL, would provide a
force to be reckoned with. When you assemble the model and
pick it up, it doesn't feel quite like other model sailplanes...it
feels like a "TOOL" specifically designed for the
F3B task.
