Jason George Wins SWC 2008!

Jason George of CVRC, Visalia, California won the Open category at the 2008 South West Classic in Phoenix, Arizona. Jason flew a SkipMillerModels Pike Perfect. Jason's consistency put him in the winners circle, out scoring a very notable field of top competition pilots. Congratulations Jason!!!!  In the picture above, Jason nailed the 4 inch 35 point center of the landing on his last flight for the win. He also earned a second place finish in RES flying a SkipMillerModels Topaz S. The top 5 in Phoenix were ALL Skipmillermodels aircraft and were separated by only 15 points out of 3200!  1. PERFECT  2. ORCA  3. SHARON  4. ESPADA RL  5. PERFECT. In Res, 2 out of the top 3 were TOPAZ S!

SWC Update 2/12/07

Rocky Mountain Soaring Association wins SWC 1st Place Team Award
RMSA took 6 of the top 12 places with the planes from SkipMillerModels.com.  Mark Howard placed 2nd overall with an Extreme.  Pike Perfects took 4th, 7th and 10th in the hands of Skip Miller, Guy Russo and Mike Verzuh respectively while Cody Remington and Joseph Newcomb rounded out the top 12 with their Espadas!  Skip Miller also took 1st place in RES and Bob Vixie took 1st place in Woody!  Cody and Joseph were also the top junior pilots in the event. All these pilots trusted their reliable Airtronics Stylus transmitters to take their ships to victory!

The Airtronics team took top honors with  Perkins 1st , Howard 2nd,Smith 3rd ,and  Miller 4th  in the 120 pilot open competition! Rocky Mountain Soaring Association from Colorado won the club victory, having 6 club members placing  in the top 12 !!! Daryl Perkins (4 time World F3B Champion), flying a brand new SUPRA from Kennedy Composites, with Airtronics Stylus for guidance,  literally  out thermaled, outlanded, and out did every pilot on the field in some very challenging conditions. Near the end of the competition the last round was cancelled before completion due to extreme gusty (20-30mph) conditions in a downwind / cross launching / landing situation, a tough but appropriate decision  made by the contest organizers due to severe safety considerations! He was chased hard by Mark Howard (National Altitude record holder) flying an Extreme. In RES Skip Miller (1st F3B World Champion) was the winner, also sporting the Airtronics Stylus and all digital Airtronics 761 servos, besting Jason George by a "massive" margin of 11 points! 2m was awarded to Dave Kornberg, a scant few points ahead of "Turkey Vulture" and "Rocket Man" Arthur Markiewicz! Don Richmond and Dave Corven TIED for top honors in Grey Cup, with, my assumption, a coin flip determining the winner (Richmond).  Woody was won convincingly by Bob Vixie ( soaring altitude co-record holder) of Colorado, ahead of long time soaring advocate and competitor Fred Weaver (he is #3  LEVEL V in USA and 4 time Visalia winner!!!)  In Juniors the complete USA Gold medal team was present, with Cody Remington,  current F3J Junior World Champion, besting Newcomb and Adamczyk, for the 1st place win . He flew an Espada RL with AIRTRONICS Stylus radio gear . So yes...there was talent to spare at the 2007 CASL South West Classic!!

The CASL club did their typical outstanding job as usual, tapping into a dedicated soaring group, who, due to encroaching civilization on their field, have some very interesting challenges in the next few years. Thank you Darwin/ Chico/ CASL for providing the "season opener" for so many competitors nation wide! We ALL really appreciate a great place to begin...and we'll be back next year!
