"After my father died on June 17th, my mother and I were both consoled by many people. My mother and I are continuing to keep the business going so I was told by several people it would be a good idea to start flying again. For the others of the flying community to see me out there flying and using our equipment. So I set up an old Apogee plane my father was using for a club trainer and set out to recover my flying abilities. With help from John Baird, I got the plane flying and found I could still do this relatively well. John told me there was a local club having a contest the next day and I figured on showing my face and introducing myself around. While there I was prompted to enter the contest and with a little coaxing I did so. I paid my club dues and luckily already paid for my AMA and I had my fathers numbers. After paying my way into the contest, I figured I'd just take it easy and not destroy my plane before the big Visalia contest a week away. I never intended or expected to place in the contest yet after 4 rounds I placed first in RES class( to my amazement) and as the prize I received 10% off Skip Miller models. While at Visalia I met Skip Miller personally and asked him how long the 10% was good for. Since I was short on funds, as I'm sure we all are these days, I would need time to gather the funds to purchase one of his planes. Skip told me that since I was the FIRST to receive his "Skip Miller Models Winner's Circle" prize, he would make me a good deal besides the 10%. He offered me a payment plan I could not refuse. After much deliberation I settled on the Topaz s V2 which he had several of there on hand. I picked out the plane and was happy as can be. After Visalia I got the plane home and began putting it together. It is finally ready for a full launch and I'm pleased as can be. See you all out there, watch out I'm flying a Skip Miller Topaz now." Bryan Joy, October 2010
