Hey guys, Alex here.
For those of you who don’t know me, I am the
newest addition to the SkipMillerModels team here in Colorado. I’m an avid RC pilot with
background in 3D, Pattern, sport, and parkflyer type aircraft as well as
helicopters. Recently I decided to take the leap and enter the world of DLG’s. Of
course being budget conscious, I selected what I thought might be the best bang
for my buck. The TopSky 2.0 Disser.
Ill
just start by saying the Topsky 2.0 is a fantastic model. Start to finish I
have been impressed with this kit, and for the price it is an incredible value.
The parts quality is extremely high for a model in this price range, and
there are some nice features as well. Factory beveled wing roots, a three
section airfoil, trilerons, air foiled tail surfaces, and Carbon reinforced
trailing edges, just to name a few.
The box comes with all the usual parts you would expect from a bagged DLG. A
very nicely finished 2 piece wing, wrapped carbon boom, a very nice set of
air-foiled tail surfaces, and your choice of the standard 2.4 friendly Kevlar pod,
or a carbon & Kevlar-Disser one. The hardware kit is very complete and includes
enough carbon and fiberglass cloth to complete the model and still have a bit
left over. Throwing peg, servo tray, carbon tail pylon, steel pushrods and a
set of mounting jigs are included as well.
As
I mentioned I have previous RC experience but DLG’s are very new to
me. With some guidance from Skip and Cody I was able to sniff out
thermals within the first few flights. I was also able to achieve throws
between100-130’, although not high in the DLG world it was fairly impressive considering
my lack of experience. Ill report back in the future to see where I get to but
both my mentors say I will be throwing 150 ish before I know it... hope
so!
Its
wide performance curve is very well suited to beginner and intermediate thermal
pilots. Flight characteristics are stable and the model reads the air well
enough for beginning pilots to pick up on the subtleties of finding thermals.
The Topsky hangs extremely well with a bit of camber, and when you’re ready to
come down just take it out and this model has plenty of room to move. The flaps
are generously sized and do an excellent job of slowing the model down; with
Airtronics 802’s and RDS I was able to get 65-70 degrees of deflection out of
the test model.
The
Topsky 2.0 Disser met, and surpassed all my expectations. This model is a great
option for anyone looking to break into the world of F3K without breaking the
bank. And no matter who you are you’re almost certain to have some fun with
this model."
