The wait is over! We finally have a model that ties everything together; fit and finish, looks, performance, and handing. Stefan Eder really hit the ball out of the park with this one.
Construction:
The Satori is molded using the latest in CNC milled molds, allowing its finish to be accurate and precise. The model comes very complete. It comes with a wiring harness pre installed in the wing, and one pre made for the fuse. The control horns are made out of G-10 and pre installed in the surfaces. The kit comes with all necessary hard ware to complete the model. The model is very easy to build, there is no fussing around with complicated installs like other models.
The Satori comes in 4 different lay-ups. The C68 is the everyday around model, a super light version for dead air, a C80 version for direct towing and extreme wind, and a Spread Tow version that weights about the same as the C68, but is stiffer. We recommend you order a C68 version as you first model.
Performance and flight characteristics:
From the first throw we knew the Satori was something special. Skip had the privilege of flying the model the first time as I watched. He threw the model and went out over a ditch trying to catch some low lift. The famous Colorado sink hit him on the way out, and when he finally got to the lift he was 3 feet off the ground with very little energy. I was praying that he was not going to take a turn, as any of our other models would not make it and most likely would land in the ditch. Against my hopes he wrapped the Satori up on one tip and circled effortlessly in the spotty lift. A very impressive start to for a new model.
Our predictions about the Satori from the first flight were correct, it is an amazing performer. The model has incredible legs on it. It is able to cover the whole sky, while still maintaining a great L/D. So in other words you are able to move between lift very very fast with out losing much altitude. The Satori has a very wide speed range due to it's camber changing airfoil, so when you do get to the lift you can slow it up and feel every change in the thermal. In dead air it has an incredible hang time. Even with the C68 74 ounce Satori we were able to hang as well as our superlight models.
During the Satori's first contest in Europe it managed to get a 9.59.XX and a 97 landing, meaning the model had less than 1 sec of margin on launch and landing. We have confirmed that the Satori is an awesome launcher. It rotates incredibly fast and launches steep and fast, and in the zoom it zooms like and Orca.
With over sized control surfaces the Satori is a spectacular lander. Its flaps are over sized, so slowing down is not a problem. During the very slow speeds of landing it maintains full control with the Ailerons, rudder, and Elevator. This allows you to keep the model lined up on landing and have as aggressive of a push as you dare at the end.
The Satori is a very impressive model. It is one of the only models that has really tied everything together for us and does everything we ask it. Try it for your self, or just ask Skip what he will be flying next season........
