The new F-16 ducted fan jet is an amazing offer from Skip Miller Models. The model is fully molded with composite material. The advanced building techniques all the F-16 to be extremely light and strong. The airframe is built for a 70mm ducted fan. With the recommended SAPAC EDF 70 ducted fan the F-16 is a blast to fly. The extremely high strength to weight radio allows for vertical climbs and extreme speeds. The model have 2 full flying stabs for elevator control and can be mixed with the ailerons for an extreme roll rate. The airframe comes with servo hole already cut out and the control horns installed in the surfaces. The model is an excellent deal for a fully molded model and is an excellent choice for anyone wanting a new electric jet or someone wanting a sweet sloper.
SHORT INSTRUCTION
for assembling F-16 model
1. Position the EDF unit in a foam ring inside the fuselage. Don’t glue it
yet—you will determine its final position after all the equipment is installed
and you adjust the CG position by moving the EDF unit.
2. Lightly sand the wing roots, bottom of the vertical stabilizer, and the
corresponding areas on the fuselage to remove the paint where the epoxy will be
applied.
3. Insert the wing spar into the fuselage and lock it in position with a
drop of CA.
4. Apply epoxy on the wing roots, fuselage, the wing spar, and the
vertical stabilizer. Install these components and let the glue cure.
5. Install halves of the horizontal stabilizer and lock them with screws,
so that the stabilizer halves can rotate freely.
6. Install servos and control rods.
7. Install the receiver in the nose, then tie the battery to the plywood
platform. Attach the ESC with a velcro somewhere between the RX and the
battery.
8. Drill a 15mm (0.6”) diameter hole about 10…20mm (0.5…1”) ahead of the
battery and secure with CA an intake air scoop for cooling the engine there.
9. Install the canopy.
10. Finally, move the EDF unit (and battery, if necessary) to achieve the
desired CG location and glue the unit to the fuselage with epoxy.
Recommended setup:
CG at 93mm behind the
LE at the wing root (instead of 105…110mm shown in the drawing)
Elevator travel: +/-11mm
(measured on the LE)
Aileron travel:
+/-16mm (measured on the TE)
Neutral position: LE
of the horizontal stabilizer 1mm above the joining line of the upper and lower
fuselage halves.
